Emma Dauncey

Just two weeks before her gastric sleeve operation at Benenden, Emma Dauncey tipped the scales at 23 stone with a BMI of 50.

Emma went to see her GP and was referred to Benenden Hospital under Consultant Bariatric Surgeon Mr Hamouda and his team.

This is what she said:

"I tried everything to lose weight including fitness camps but when I got back from that it didn't really make a difference because I was in the same environment and started eating.

"I was pretty certain I was going to get diabetes sooner or later because of how ill I was.

"I never felt well, I wasn't sleeping, I was in pain from just walking and I had a lot of medical problems that were affected by my weight.

"It affected every part of my life and just doing simple things became such a task. At that point my health was going down the pan."

Just two months on from the procedure, the 23-year-old events manager from London, had already lost three stone.

"I did look into having the gastric balloon but I knew in myself that if there was ever any option for it to be reversed, then I knew I would go backwards and I could never forgive myself for that, so it was an easy choice to make.

The operation went really well and I was kept in for two nights. I love the hospital, it was really peaceful and the whole building is really modern.

"It really didn't take me as long to recover as I thought it would."
